About Pinehurst
Pinehurst is an unincorporated community where SH 249, FM 149, and FM 1774 meet, about 17 miles southwest of Conroe and 4.5 miles north of the Harris County line. It has no city government; county government handles local matters. The area was known as Prairie Home and Hunter's Retreat before taking the name Pinehurst in 1904, and it counted 5,195 residents in the 2020 census.
Much of Pinehurst's growth has come through master-planned development such as Woodtrace, near SH 249 and the Grand Parkway, alongside older neighborhoods and larger lots nearby. Pinehurst is split between Magnolia ISD and Tomball ISD.

HOA neighborhoods and older lots
Master-planned communities like Woodtrace have HOA guidelines on fence height, style, and color, so plan on approval before you build. Older lots nearby often have lighter deed restrictions but may still have rules, so it's worth checking.
The ground here is a lot like the rest of upland Montgomery County: sandy on top with clay below. We set gate and corner posts deeper and wider, and plan for spots that hold water after a heavy rain.
Permits
Pinehurst is unincorporated, so there's no city fence permit. In unincorporated Montgomery County, a typical residential fence usually doesn't need a county building permit, but HOA approval may be required. We confirm what applies to your address before we quote.
