Semi-Privacy Fences — Magnolia, TX
Semi-Privacy Fences
Screening without a solid wall — light, airflow, and a softer look.
What it looks like
A semi-privacy fence blocks most of the view without being completely solid. Common versions include shadowbox fences (boards alternating on each side of the rails), solid lower panels topped with lattice, and spaced pickets or slats with small, even gaps.
Most semi-privacy fences are five to six feet tall. They're a good middle ground when a full privacy fence would feel too closed in, when you want breeze through the yard in summer, or when a garden needs light along the fence line.
- Privacy level: Partial to most privacy
- Typical height: 5–6 ft typical
Materials it's built in
Wood & Cedar
Shadowbox and lattice-top designs in cedar or pine are the most popular versions.
Wood & Cedar →Acreage or subdivision lot?
On acreage
On acreage, semi-privacy fencing is a good choice around outdoor living areas, gardens, and pool decks, where you want some screening but don't want to block the view of your own land.
On subdivision lots
On subdivision lots, shadowbox and lattice-top fences are often allowed alongside standard privacy styles. If your property has HOA or deed restrictions, check with your board on whether lattice tops or spacing are allowed.
Good to know
- Gaps let wind pass through, which reduces load on posts during storms.
- Shadowbox looks finished from both sides, which neighbors appreciate.
- We request Texas 811 utility locates before any digging.
- Lattice and decorative tops can be added to a standard privacy fence design.
