Ornamental Fences

Open, elegant metal fencing that adds security without blocking the view.

What it looks like

Ornamental fencing — often called wrought iron, though today it's usually aluminum or steel — uses slim vertical pickets between horizontal rails. Options include flat or spear tops, finials, decorative rings, and arched gates.

Residential ornamental fences are typically four to five feet tall, with taller panels for entries and estate frontage. Because you can see straight through them, they're the go-to fence where a view of a lake, golf course, or landscaped yard matters.

  • Privacy level: Low privacy, full view
  • Typical height: 4–5 ft typical; taller at entries

Acreage or subdivision lot?

On acreage

On acreage, ornamental metal is usually used where it makes the biggest impression: entry and drive gates, the front of the property, and the yard around the house.

On subdivision lots

On golf-course and lakefront lots, ornamental metal is often the style guidelines call for, and it works well for front yards and pool areas on any lot. If your property has HOA or deed restrictions, check with your board on height and finish.

Good to know

  • The open design lets wind pass through, which helps in storms.
  • Aluminum won't rust, making it the better pick near water and pools.
  • We request Texas 811 utility locates before any digging.
  • Matching walk and drive gates can be prepared for automatic openers.
