Picket Fences

Classic front-yard and garden fencing that defines the space without closing it off.

What it looks like

A picket fence is a short fence with evenly spaced vertical pickets, usually three to four feet tall. It marks the edge of a yard, frames a garden or walkway, and keeps small pets and kids close without blocking the view of the house.

Picket tops can be flat, pointed, dog-eared, or scalloped, and the spacing can be tight or open. A matching walk gate finishes the look.

  • Privacy level: Low privacy

Acreage or subdivision lot?

On acreage

On acreage, a picket fence is usually a finishing touch near the house — around a front yard, garden, or entry — rather than a boundary fence.

On subdivision lots

On subdivision lots, picket fencing is mostly used in front yards and garden areas. Front-yard fences are the ones HOAs are most likely to restrict, so if your property has HOA or deed restrictions, check with your board first.

Good to know

  • Shorter fences mean lighter posts, but posts still need to be set for our soils.
  • Spacing can be tightened for small dogs.
  • We request Texas 811 utility locates before any digging.
  • A matching gate and hardware make a big difference in how finished it looks.
